How to Start a Lego Club

I wanted to write a small note about how we got started. I was reading the Family Fun Magazine and saw an aritcle for the Lego Build of the Month. Family fun was teaming up with Lego and offers 2-3 ideas each month. I thought, "How Cool". My kids love building legos!! I sent out an email to my friends and tried to see who would be interested in participating in a lego club and I got a yes from all my friends!! At that point I had about 25 kids!! I contacted the local librarian to see if we could hold a meeting there. Carol the librarian was so helpful! We do not have to rent the room and the assistant librarian even donated a large box of legos to us!! We advertised in the library newsletter and after seeing the space we would be in, I expanded the club to 30 kids! Our first meeting most of the parents stayed and helped! It was wonderful! With such a large group I definitely needed the extra hands!!  I set the dues for each meeting at $10.00 so each kid can make something that they get to take home. The lego webiste has many ideas for each month to build and there are some sites I listed on the blog who also have old intructions and sets to get some more ideas!!
Each build varies from $4-6 dollars. I make treat bags for each theme we build so I use the money we have left to buy treats for each child! I also decided to recognize each child who has a birthday and I have been purchasing small lego set for them $5-6 dollars!!

I have a few siblings who are under 4 so I take my duplo legos to the meetings and I purchase a small duplo set for each of those kids! I have found some cute sets like zoo and farm animals!!

I also try to do some games at each meeting. I am trying to do something educational but not boring!
This month I have asked the librarian to give me a list of books that go with our theme!! I am going to list them in the small newsletter I give out at each meeting!!
If you are interested in starting a lego club feel free to contact me!!
I found these goodies at Joann Fabrics. I am putting these in the bags for the girls!
There is a bank, pencil case, note pad, stamper, markers, backpack clip, lip gloss, tatoo and lollipop.
I also printed off some coloring pages for each of the girls.
This is the lego set the girls are going to build.
These are the treat bags I made for the girls this month!!
I used my cricut to make the letters and Hello Kitty image!
I found 4 different types of racecars. Each boy will build one set!!
We are celebrating Cole S, Kyle S, Constantine and Brian R's Birthdays!!

April Lego Club

Here is a pic of the favor bags I made for the April lego club. I found these bags at 5 Below!!
I used my cricut to cut 1 1/2 inch circles to make it look like a lego block! I bought scrapbooking foam dots to make the circles stick out a little further!
